Basilica of the Immaculate Conception

Letter from our Pastor, Fr. Jim Sullivan

4 Aug 2020

Dear Friends,

We are now heading into week #6 of Sunday Masses and it is exciting to see people starting to come back in large numbers. At two of the masses, (8:00am and 10:00am) we have been over the 100 person limit currently allowed by the State of Connecticut. The last thing we want to do is turning people away from attending Sunday mass.

As a suggestion, perhaps you would consider attending a later mass (12:00pm or 4:00pm). These masses have consistently had less than 100 people. The priests of the Basilica also serve at St. Francis Xavier Church (625 Baldwin Street) and their 9:30am Mass has room for more.

We all hope and pray that the state limits are lifted soon.

                                                                                                                                   Welcome back to all,
                                                                                                                                   Fr. Sullivan and staff

Resuming Public Worship on Sundays in the Archdiocese of Hartford

Churches in the Archdiocese of Hartford will be able to reinstate the celebration of public Sunday Masses beginning the weekend of July 4 & 5, 2020.

Continuing to follow the required Archdiocesan procedures and respecting the current limits set by Governor Ned Lamont, Sunday Masses can take place beginning that weekend either indoors with a maximum of 25% of the church capacity or 100 total persons, whichever is less, socially distanced, or outdoors with a maximum of 150 persons, socially distanced.

While Sunday Masses will resume during the weekend of July 4 & 5, the dispensation from the Sunday obligation previously granted to all Catholics of the Archdiocese by the Archbishop will continue to extend through Sunday, September 6, 2020. The elderly, the sick, and those who care for anyone who is vulnerable remain encouraged not to attend at this time.

As has been the case throughout the response to the coronavirus, the Archdiocese of Hartford will continue to track the situation surrounding the pandemic and will offer any and all updates deemed necessary to these current guidelines.

Sunday Mass Schedule (effective 4-5 July 2020): 4:15pm Sat Vigil, 6:30am, 8am, 10am, 12pm and 4pm ***No reservations taken at this time***

Daily Mass Schedule:
6am (Mon-Sat) 8am (Mon-Fri) 12:10pm (Mon-Sat) 5:30pm (Wed & 1st Fri)

As for Sunday Mass, the dispensation from the Sunday obligation previously granted to all Catholics of the Archdiocese by the Archbishop has now been extended through Sunday, September 6, 2020. This will remain in effect even when the public celebration of Sunday Mass resumes, hopefully in the very near future.

Confessions will also resume: Mon to Fri from 6:30-7am and 11am-12pm, Sat from 6:30-7am, 11-12pm and 3-4pm; and Sun from 7:15-7:45am, 9:15-9:45am and 11:15-11:45am.

Please visit this website regularly for the latest updates.

God Bless!

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.  Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father
